seeking is purposive, even if you don't know exactly what it is that you are seeking, it has a goal. it is active and can involve turning over rocks to see what's underneath or travelling to temples in Nepal to speak to a wise monk or programming a missile to find heat sources.
searching is a general term for the process which aims at yileding discovery.
looking is often more passive and can be done with the eyes alone (but not necessarily). it does not need to involve the hands, feet, mind, ears, or anything else.
discerning has to do with understanding the qualities of what is presented to your senses. in the case of some identical twins you can look all you want and not see the difference between them; you must discern the difference through a more complex process of understanding and interpreting.
neat question!

look: an occular mechanism and physical ability which is mostly automatic, used for a general "take in" of information in the environment. eg we look frequently without seeing.
search: the behaviour we employ both physical (we go around the room, house, etc) using all our 5 senses and mental abilities when we want to find a missing object/person.
seek: a more emotionally intense word for search. we search for our socks, we seek the truth.
discern: the mental ability to "see through" that which is there, to differentiate and tell apart things which appear to be the same.
