Well, I don't know about the typical, but it seems an accurate assessment.

1 He's a "Ranger." Rangers, although their role was very important to much of Middle Earth, weren't looked on as highly as they deserved, and thus Aragorn's immediate position didn't warrant him much respect aside from an appreciation of his skills as a warrior and scout. This wasn't that big of a deal in the Fellowship, but in dealing with Gondor and especially it's proud steward this was an obstacle.
2. (as stated above) he still believed himself to weak, given that he was of the bloodline that failed to destroy the ring in centuries past. Aragorn feared that he was no different from the great kings of Gondor's past who had failed when faced with the temptation of the ring.
3. he's scared...and who wouldn't be. it wasn't a good time to be the last true Numenorian heir to the throne of Gondor, what with Sauron and all the responsibility of having to fight a seemingly insurmountable force of "bad guys," not to mention having to walk the paths of the dead to command an army of cursed spectres to his allegiance. his was not an easy calling...

He doesn't feel adequate to rule the people. He feels that he will fail like his ancestors. He is reluctant to take the throne until he realizes that he is not his father/father's father and can be a successful king.
