I have an Arrowhead Crab (Arrow Crab) in a saltwater fish tank.

His bottom sometimes "opens up" like a very small clamshell on a hinge. The little flap that opens is perhaps 1/8 inch in diameter.

The crab puts his pincer claws in there as if picking out food (or doing something)

Any idea what part of the crab's anatomy I am looking at or what is going on? I am guessing maybe this is an egg sac or maybe preparation for molting, but this has been going on for several days?

That is where their sexual organs are located. It is also where they excrete from. When you see it open up he is probably just taking a leak.

He may be preparing to molt too, in that case he will be looking for a place to hide, and won't move at all for several days until he actually starts the molting process.

They open up there to clean. Other crabs also do this.
