I don't think the issue is as much whether Pakistan is an ally so much as the President-by-military-coup-dictator-for-life, Musharraf, being a very practical person, thinks it better to to cooperate with the U.S.'s war on terror. The problem is that Musharraf is more unpopular in Pakistan than Bush is in America. There have already been at least two, close-call assassination attempts on his life. How much longer before his luck runs out? After Musharraf is replaced by some Islamo-fascist mullah, the U.S. will have to go in and take out all those terrorist training schools. The U.K. will thank us for it.

President Pervez Musharraf is a Friend of the US. He has a Western education and many Friends that live here! He is also trying to wrest a country that is half "Dog-patch" into the modern world!
