Basically,
showing the evils of censorship.
And showing how society would be if it was taken too far.

"Set in the 24th century, Fahrenheit 451 tells the story of the protagonist, Guy Montag. At first, Montag takes pleasure in his profession as a fireman, burning illegally owned books and the homes of their owners. However, Montag soon begins to question the value of his profession and, in turn, his life. Throughout the novel Montag struggles with his existence, eventually fleeing his oppressive, censored society and joining an underground network of intellectuals. With his newfound friends, Montag witnesses the atomic destruction if his former city and dedicates himself to rebuilding a literate and cultural society."

It all is really about doing what is right when you face of danger and discrimination. Even if it means that your whole life is turned upside down.

It's a book about the future where the fire department does not put out fires but starts them instead in order to burn books. The ownership of books has become illegal. One fireman meets a young woman who makes him question these ideas.

A future society where all books are banned and there is a special group of firemen who don´t fight fires, but ignite them burning the books, however one of the firemen keeps and reads one of the books and discovers, thereby, that the society he lives in is much impoverished compared to that described in the book.

Its set in a fictional "future" society where books are banned, burned...its interesting, and a very compelling read! The site below gives tons of info on the book, but I hope you choose to read it yourself, instead.
