Like the song says: "what we want is only what we want until its ours" then we want more or something else. Fostered by a capitalist economy. Aquiring things seems to be the answer to the pursuit of happiness in this country. Is that really the answer? When you get something do you feel satisfied?

True happiness is a state of mind and cannot be bought for happiness comes from within. All money does for you is give you options.

You can have very little but if you are happy within yourself you have it all.

There are people with more money than they will ever be able to spend and are not happy. Why? Because they have spent their whole lives in the pursuit of what someone else told them they needed to do to be happy. They may have even given up the one thing that would have made them happy.

Happiness must come from within no matter what your circumstance or it will never be. There are some people that will say to this....well there is someone that must be poor. So of course it has to say that. And that assumption would be wrong.

While we all struggle to have the biggest and best when we die and somehow feel that we will have won at life if we do it is, in an of itself, the wrong road to travel. Getting there, and loving what we do, is the true joy of it not the arriving for then it's all over.

It has been said "I do what I do because I love it". "I would do this even if there were no money in it." They are the happy ones.

A man walks into the office of a psychologist and explains that he is not happy and can not find the meaning of life. He was desperately looking for help. The Dr. says:"My friend, you need to travel, visit other cultures and meet different people. This will give you meaning in life and it will also bring happiness into your life." The man responds that he has traveled all over the world and knows many cultures and assures the Dr. that that is not the answer. The Dr. pauses for a moment and says: "Very well, then what you must do is go to parties, enjoy yourself, meet women and this will distract you. You will find pleaure in doing this." The man looks at the Dr. and says that he has been with more women than the Dr. will ever be with in his entire life. He has chosen the women he has wanted to be with and knows that this is not the way to happiness. The Dr. starts to worry, thinks for a moment and says:"I've got it!, Laughter is the best medicine. I tell you this because it has worked for me. There's a new circus in town and in this circus there's a routine by Garrick the Clown. I have seen him personally and he has helped me in my times of dispair. Go, see him. If this doesn't help you, then, my friend, I don't know what will." The man looks down. Tears start rolling down his cheeks. He says:"I know now that my sickness has no cure, for I am Garrick the clown."
Moral: Material things, trips, people don't buy happiness. They are distractors that may work for a while and then expire. True happiness comes from within.

When I want something really bad, like a purse, watch, a new truck, I feel that when I get it, I'll be completely happy! Fact is when I get it, I don't feel happy at all, I just feel like oh how nice, now what else do I want. I realize now that materialistic things do not make me happy at all. But now I see how happy my family makes me, being with my husband, playing with dogs, the things that you can not buy!

as the saying goes" the best things in life are free" in terms of costing no money. the "secret" to happiness is that it is generated from *within*. it accompanies, automatically, having a high frequency and free flowing internal energy. such can never be purchased, but only earned via doing a lot of meditation, energy work such as yoga, chi gong, etc., and being in control of your otherwise wayward, always babbling, mind. the richest people on the planet probably know about the open secret, but choose to spend their time accumulating more wealth and power. thinking about and planning in this area is a very low vibe process, and, thus, can never contibute to true happines. too bad ;-))))

" money doesn't buy you happiness" was created as a lame consolation for all of us struggling people. and we buy it because we want to.
If I had more money I would be struggling less, I will have opportunities to do things and go places I will lead a more comfortable life, I will eat better, sleep in a better bed, I can afford to look after myself better. now all these are sources of pleasure that I am denied if I have no money.
By my standards a collection of pleasurable moments might not be happiness but it sure is close enough and good enough for me.

I don't know how old you are but let me tell you this.

When you are in your teens and early twenties, still living at home with Mum and Dad and going to school or college, it seems to be cool to criticise the capitalist economy and to say that happiness cannot be bought.

Then you grow up, get married, have a family and buy a house with a sodding great mortgage. You have people relying on you to earn money and put food on the table, your kids pretend to loathe capitalism then moan when they don't get the latest training shoes for their birthday, you have to pay your mortgage and your taxes.

Damn right acquistion would make me happy - give me enough to pay for my house and that would be cool.

************************************************************

Hurray - a negative mark ! That's made me happy !

Acquiring things is just a way to fill what is void/missing in the heart and the toughest journey is always looking within.Try having nothing and be happy...that would be a challenge!

sometimes things can bring you a measure of happiness,,,,,,, i feel your level of happiness is made up of many factors,,,, and that overall you can experience happiness by having one level met while others might still need more work,,,,,,, but yes, if your concept of happiness is based on one thing,,,,,, whether its material or a person or a job,,,,,, you most likely will not feel total happiness when you reach/achieve that one goal
