Even though Kobe Bryant scored 81 points in a game, Michael Jordan is a better basketball player.

I have gone back and forth myself about this question. People say that MJ is the best basketball player of all time, but what does that actually mean? Is that a reference to success, skill or some other intangible? There is no question that he is the most celebrated player of all time as well as the most successfull, but does that mean he is the best?

If it is a reference to success, he has six rings, but so does Robert Horry. Shaq has 4, Tim Duncan and Kobe have 3 and got them a little faster than MJ got his! If it is a reference to success, how do you measure it? If its rings, Kobe, Shaq and maybe even Robert Horry are on pace to be better than MJ.........think about that!!! A little problematic isn't it?

If youre talking skill, MJ was the original prototype of the forwards we have today. Generally, when MJ got in the league (1984), he was the first player of his type. Players that are 6'6 did not handle the ball that well, rebound that well or pass that well and no damn body was that athletic. At the time, he had a skill set that was unheard of in a 6'6 frame. But being celebrated as the greatest of all time will lead youth to emulate your game. As a result, you had the late Len Bias, Bernard King, Kobe Bryant, Darius Miles, Tracy McGrady, Rip Hamilton, Carmello Anthony, Gudy Gay, Lebron James and the list goes on. Currently the NBA is full of players similar in size with similar skill sets that actually came into the league handling the ball like a 1 or 2 guard with a nice jumber and can jump out of the gym. Look at Lebron.......he can snatch a roll of quarter off the top of the backboard!!!

Intangibles such as being a good teammate, dedication to an organization, dedication to winning, work ethic and attitude. MJ is probably it. After leading the league in scoring 3 times, he hired a coach in the off-season to teach him the fundamentals of basketball!!! He took pay cuts to resign Scottie Pippen (the most over-rated player in NBA history), and any free agents that he thought could keep the team on top. He was willing to defer if another player was hot, and willing to share the spot light is someone else was playing well. Great attitude, teammate and work ethic. Paralleled by none...................except Lebron James. He has a lot of the charactaristics as a player and team leader that made MJ great. Difference is, he came into the league with them and he bigger, stronger and jumps higher. Imagine that. If you look at the both of them in terms of skill and intangibles, Lebron is light years ahead. I beleive the success will come in time.

But that's just what I think.

Yes Michael Jordan is better than Kobe Bryant. Kobe is a icon but Jordan is a legend.

Michael Jordan changed the game of basketball as we know it today single handidly...He was a master in the clutch and drew sell out crowds to whatever city he was playing in that night. Kobe Bryant doesn't have near the standing that MJ did, and in fact Michael Jordan made it possible for Kobe to be playing his game in the NBA today

Yes because Jordan always won the scoring title and it appears Kobe doesn't want to win it anymore because he is weak minded and lets other people's criticism dictate how he plays the game whereas Jordan was critisized for being a ballhog and shut his haters up by winning rings and scoring titles at the same time. Also Jordan kind of dictated to his teamates that he wasw gonna drop 50+ and they were not only accept it but they were going to bust their *** too whether they like it or not but Kobe does not have that same strength of will in my opinion. Also Jordan always won the steals title as well which can't be overlooked.

well we won't really be able to tell till kobe's career is over. plus right now it's hard to tell. a player is only as good as his team, and kobe has an entirely different team than jordan had. kobe probably got to put up more shots than michael did. (ofcoarse now kobe has taken less shots) and u shouldn't really rely on their stats cuz that depends entirely on the people they are playin. kobe and michael had to compete with different people. but if u look at their rings kobe got three along time ago. (dont say cuz of shaq cuz he still got them u cant change that) michael was struggling to get to the finals at the age kobe was makin game winning shots in the finals and semi finals. but right now kobe is going through the trouble michael was in the begining of his career. but in my opinion kobe as an individual is doing better than michael right now. he'll cary his time to a win when no one thinks they can win just like mike. overall though it doesnt mater if he's as good as michael. kobe is just tryin to b kobe just like michael tryed to be michael

Is a $100 dollar bill worth more than a $50 dollar bill? No. Kobe comes up short when compared to MJ.

There is no comparison with the player nor the man. Michael out classes Kobe in every way period.
