Can I compress files together to put in more songs?

Around anywhere from 40 to 90 songs, depending on the bandwidth, size, length, and format of the song.
If it uses wma, then compress those files.
Hopefully you can also use AAC files (iTunes m4a), which are quite small also.

usually 80. yes you can compress songs but the quality might go down. It really depends on how long and big the song is but 80 songs is about right for a 256mb mp3

It depends on at waht bitrate ya convert your songs
For example,if you convert song at 128 kbps you can store more songs than if you convert them at 256 kbps.
If your mp3 player support try to convert your into aac format at128 or 96 kbps it will give you more free space.
Mind it:
the more you loose quality the more you earn space!

about 50 high quality songs about 4 mins long. The best way to compress them is to go into itunes preferences and select "advanced" then "importing" then change the setting.

According to Apple you can put 240 songs on their 1G shuffle, so I'd say appx 60 on a 256mb mp3.

in case of video files only five. and in case of audio 35-50. and in case of audio it also depend upon bits/sec(bit rate).
