I mean they said in one episode that all black people go to hell.
They showed Gandhi in hell.

How do they get away with it?

1st Amendment rights (freedom of speech). Also, when it's characters saying these phrases, it's different that an actual person saying them. It's just entertinment, not always truth.

Well firstly, if you understand the show beyond the outer level, you'll see that it is completely thought provoking. The way Matt and Trey can take serious current events and twist them around to show how overblown they can really be is amazing. The creators don't feel that black people go to hell. I cannot remember the episode this was even stated in. I'm sure you have to put it into context with the entire show.

I'm guessing you watched the Satans halloween special. If you read up on Ghandi, you would understand that Ghandi was %100 racist against black people. There is even video of Ghandi talking and acknowledging this, it's no secret. Ghandi was also a womanizer. This really is no secret.

Check out Penn & Tellers Bullsh*t. They go over it all.

What they do is "protected speech." You can insult people and be a bigot and that is legally protected. What isn't protected is "fighting words" or speech with the potential of bringing about an "imminent threat." So you can say "hateful" or "insulting things" as long as you are not directing it at someone to incite violence (or encourage others to be violent). Since "South Park" is a comedy show - they clearly fall under the protected side of speech and that's why those hilarious bastards insult even me and I'm laughing. Hope this helps.

Freedom of speech. It's true what everyone else said, they are equal opportunity bashers. They leave no stone unturned. They even include muliracial cartoons, nothing is one sided on that show. Like any other comedian out there, the stuff they write is directed to the audience they "command". You definitely don't have to agree with it, that's the joy of cable tv - turn the channel if you're offended. I personally don't watch it, but there are alot of people that do. Hence the reason they are still on the air. If no one watched it, they wouldn't be there.

Canned laughter provides comic relief to a dicey situation as you've described.

I find their insults are insensitive....You just have to see what they did after Steve Irwin died. Besides this, the show is absolutely stupid!!!!!!
