I'm getting a notebook that has this:

2GB PC4200 DDR2 SDRAM (upgradeable)
200GB 4200RPM Serial-ATA hard disk drive

But people keep telling me it has a 2GB hard drive and that that's not a lot, but wouldn't the hard drive be 200GB? If it is 2GB, how much stuff would I be able to save on my notebook?

The people you're talking about are just as confused!

The hard drive is what you use to store data. So that means you'd have a 200GB drive, which is awesome for a laptop. It would take you a very long time to fill that drive.

The 2GB of DDR2 is referring to memory. Memory is what the PC uses while it's turned on. As your computer opens/closes programs, memory is getting heavily used because it is a lot quicker than your hard drive. But because of the way it works, RAM erases itself when the power is off. That's why you have to have a hard drive too to save information.

the two processor would be nice for you. As a school pupil, the small ameliorations in processing time heavily isn't a area for you. the two laptops have 4 Gig of memory, and that's an substantial element for somebody who saves music and %. and in all probability movies as nicely. the different substantial factors are the demonstrate screen length and the cost. i might think of which you will possibly like the sixteen inch demonstrate screen; the bigger it incredibly is, the greater fulfilling the experience. So, all different issues being equivalent (which is composed of value), i might circulate with the bigger demonstrate screen. If there is an substantial distinction in value (and that i think that the AMD processor would be greater affordable) and value is a challenge for you, then the AMD computer is a powerful selection as long as you do not techniques the smaller demonstrate.

They're probably telling you to get 2GB of memory. Memory and hard drives are not the same thing. Memory refers to Ram and 2GB is more than enough. 200GB for a hard drive, depends on what you are going to use it for. I deal with lots of media and videos so 200GB wouldn't cut it for me but for every day average use, it is more than enough.

the 200 GB harddrive is the permanant storage the 2GB DDR is the RAM which is temporary storage - when you are using the computer the programs (or parts of the programme) are taken from the harddrive and put into RAM (because it is a lot faster)

Both the 200GB harddrive and the 2GB DDR RAM are adequate
