The Pentium D is a series of microprocessors that was introduced by Intel at the Spring 2005 Intel Developer Forum. A 9xx-series Pentium D package contains two Pentium 4 Cedar Mill dies, unlike other multi-core processors (including the Pentium D 8xx-series) that place both cores on a single die.

It's the Intel processor that came after the Pentium 4. It's basically the same as the P4, except it has two cores ("dual-core" processor).
They were OK at first, but now that Intel has the Core 2 Duo available, I don't recommend anyone bother with the Pentium D. They get very hot. The Core 2 Duo, on the other hand, runs at half the power and much less heat. A 2.0 GHz Core 2 Duo will crush a 3.0 GHz Pentium D with little effort!
