How true is this statement? Do you think that the area you live in has an effect be it positive or negative on your identity?

Yes it certainly does. I was born in the east-end of London in those days it was rough and the street was the only play-ground. My ambition when I grew up was to work in Woolworth's` where most of the girls in the street worked until they married. When I was ten, my father married a well spoken, and educated woman and we moved away from London to the countryside. I went to grammar school and university, I met and mixed with people who had no idea that I was an east-end cockney with humble beginnings,The years passed and I made my own life continuing to live in the countryside with beautiful surroundings. I became interested in country things and nature and animals. I am now a totally different person from the little girl who lived in a `run down` area and wanted to work in Woolworth's. Where you live is important to who and what you are. The beauty of or the ugliness of your surroundings dose leave its` mark on you.

Yes, in my opinion the area in which you were brought up in as a child has an effect on you for the rest of your life,people should never forget who they are and where they came from!The area of my childhood has effected me in a positive way,I like to think.

No, I hated Chicago. So as soon as I could I moved away. But that had no barring on who I am. The cold and rain may have caused me some discomfort at the time but it went away,
