Hi there what you have damaged is the Lambda sensor which monitors the gases the flow through the exhaust and controls the fuel/ air mixture injected in to your engine via the ECU (contril unit) it should have 4 wires on it and it isnt cheap for this model as some people say i had a cavalier 2.0L and my replacement was over a hndred pounds. There are two type of sensor one works on voltages from 0.1 millivolt to one volt these are the cheaper zicronium sensors, unfortunatley the ones on the vauxhaull are titanium and work on a higher voltage of 0.1 millivolt to 6 volts. If you try to fit the cheaper sensor then it will be ok at tickover but when you accelerate the engine management light will come on again as the voltage generated will be outside the sensor capacity and the ecu will think it is faulty again and this will cause the engine to be overfueled damaging the new cat you have just fitted
There are some independant vauxhall specialsts out there or a daeler will seel you one sadly it wont be as cheap as £30 your looking around £145
