Hi! I buy a small usb case for a 2.5" hdd to use as a backup! When i try to connect in a compaq e500 laptop (with XP) the device is instaled as a generic usb disk ( install also the USB to PCI dridge) but i can not access to im because it dosen't appers in my computer! This problem only occurs in my laptop because i test in others pc's and it works!

first of all did you format the drive when you set it up, if not you should have done..

next the power on the laptop may not be strong enough running through the usb ports, so you may need external power supply for the drive,

I'm willing to bet it's one of two things
1.) The USB you're trying to plug into is not powered. (Not all older USB were powered)
2.) The drive you have is USB 2.0 and the PC only has USB 1.1
