Also what is the difference between liberal and a consertive. As far as I can see Democratic is more open minded then Repulblican. But, I am from a small Republican town, moved to a democratic town, but I'm confused, Republicans hold us down, example is Bush. I don't remember what Clinton was be he some what helped us.

It is interesting to see all the different answers to this question. It seems both parties are having an identity crisis. I live in Repub territory, and disagree with with the basic philosophy in large part, but do not consider myself a bona fide Dem either. I mainly don't like the implication that if you are a Christian, you must be a Republican. Or if you believe in family values you cannot be a Democrat. If you believe too many generalizations, or listen to too much rhetoric from either side, it will have your head spinning. Repubs represent big business, Dems support social and environmental programs. The middle class has to decide which party will help them most within a given historical time. Both parties are obligated to whoever contributes the most to their campaigns. So, you have to look at not only basic philosophies, but who is holding the puppet/purse strings.

BTW, birdsnakecat's answer is typical crap spouted by neo con Republicans of the particularly hateful persuasion. Just as many Democrats are hard working and pay taxes, so what he says is a fallacy.

There is very little difference in today's US. Many of the Democrats are backed by big business as well. In theory, the democrats are for the people and more likely to provide better social and domestic programs (where does that money come from) and the republicans are for reduced spending (like the war?!?) .

Democrats have a much higher IQ and more common sense, and love freedom.

Republicans want to raise taxes for the poor and middle class, and give tax breaks to the extremely wealthy.

Democrats are almost all liberals and boil down to being socialist. Republicans are liberals, moderates, and conservatives. The term RINO (republican in name only) means a republican who is liberal.

Reading answers the democrats are gods, saviors, but at this point I do not see much difference. They are people with silver tounges. They are political whores. In my opinion

Democrats believe that the government can get more benefit for all people, from your money than you can, so they want higher taxes and more benefits.

Republicans believe that you can get more benefit for YOURSELF by using your money.

There are many more differences.
