Its really not that hard. First backup ANYTHING you dont want to lose. Next, get a software and hardware inventory using the free belarc tool linked below.

1/ Put your windows CD in the drive, unplug from the internet, and restart your computer.
2/ When it restarts look for something similar to 'press any key to boot from disk'. If you dont see this and your regular system comes up, search the net for changing your bios boot order.
3/ Follow all the prompts to reinstall windows. Make sure that you reformat your C drive in NTFS.
4/ Babysit the system to answer all the prompts.
5/ When it finally comes up, plug back the internet and IMMEDIATELY go to the windows update page from within Internet Explorer. You dont need 'microsoft update' at this point. Do ALL critical updates. When your computer restarts, do it again and again until no more critical updates exist.
6/ Back at windows update, click on custom and do all hardware updates. If your computer has any problems after this, you can uninstall the hardware updates, but you should be fine.
7/ Install antivirus (I suggest Avast - link below), then all of your applications, then finally your data files from your backup.

You will have a few hours of tweaking after this point, but you will have a completely 'new' system.

actually it's really easy. when your computer starts up hit the key that it tells you to to get to the BIOS. this will be DEL on some computers but F11 or F12 on others. it pops up just before your computer starts. once in it you will switch the boot order of your computer to start with you CD drive( or DVD combo drive you that is what you use). once done save settings and computer will restart. put CD in CD drive before you restart. it will automatically boot from CD. this will bring up instructions on how to install windows. it starts with asking you to do partions and format. that is all a matter of preference but you should delete the old ones and start from scratch to eliminate all old problems. once you get started the computer will load all the drivers and installation software. if you need any third party software such as SCSI or SATA it will prompt you to install that first. after this it will restart. once again go into your BIOS and switch your boot order back to Hard drive first before it boots up or it will start everything all over again. once you reset boot order and save it the computer will restart. from this point on just let it run. it will prompt you to confirm settings for date/time and all that jazz and also ask for CD key. that is all you will need to do from that piont till it is done installing.

Note- some people will recommend trying to run setup with widows running instead of changing boot order. this does not work if you are runnig some security software as it will not allow you to do it and also if you have a virus or worm some of those actualy can hide as part of the installation application and hang around even after the re-install.

I recommend you to uninstall windows and burn the CD. Get ur self a real system, in which the most frequent word isn't "error", or "send money". I recommend Linux. And it's also free.
