It is actually the CC company that does that. Because you pay first, then get your receipt back, then add a tip, the tip was never processed through the POS machine. So the CC company assumes you are going to leave a tip and will tack on about 15% for your bill until the records clear between the restaurant and the CC company.
The CC company will then drop the extra charge and usually takes a couple days to see it reflected in your checking account.
Personally, I think it is a scam and should not be done, but that's the way it works.

Also, sometimes if you run a tab the resturant will automatically charge you a certain amount of money. I'm not sure if this is standard practice, but a few that I've gone to recently charged me a flat $50 when I started my tab. Then it was reversed about a day later and I was charged the amount that I actually spent.

I had similar experience. First call the restaurant manager, and it's better that you still keep your receipt. You may need to go down to the restaurant as they want to make sure your identity. The restaurant took care that with the credit card company for me.

You should be careful while signing at the hotel for the check.
May be you added 10$ as tip
Servers added by themselves by 10$
may be you wrongly observed at the bill

I would go to the restaurant manager and show him/her that I was overcharged and ask that they make it right. Then I would contact my cradit card company and send them a copy of your signed receipt and ask them to revise the charges. I would also send an email to the owners of the chain and let them know what is happening.

Yes, they are automatically taking a tip for themselves. You need to tell them not to do that if you are leaving a tip on the table for them, or if you don't wish to give them such a generous tip. I don't pay by credit card for that reason. I was leaving a tip and then one was being taken again!!

This is the oldest trick in the restaurant business. It's not the restaurant that over charges you, its the hustling, lying, lazy *** waitress you had serving you trying to steal money. Find out who your waitress was and get her fat *** fired
