Greetings Jane, from Green Bay, Wisconsin.
If you will be moving to the States, you can find more on the web by searching for school information for the city you are interested in. I have a couple local examples below.

For a public school system, elementary school often begins with Kindergarten, and runs through grade 5. A child generally starts school if they are 5 years old at the beginning of the school year. This can vary from one school district to the next.

Middle school (aka junior high school) includes grades 6, 7 & 8.

High school finishes off with grades 9 (freshman), 10 (sophomore), 11 (junior) and 12 (senior). With 13 years of education under their belt, and hopefully some of it in their brains, the student is ready to graduate around the age of 18.

In the US the terms college and university are used somewhat interchangeably. The name a school chose to give itself may have something to do with how it was founded, and its original educational mission.
