Do you have AVG or Antivir (goto download.com) installed in your pc?
If you do, you can just right click and choose "scan file for virus" on the music files after it's saved on your desktop to check if it contains any virus. Downloading an email attachment won't activate the virus, it's when you "double-click" it that will.
If the files are in a recognizable audio file extension (e.g. mp3, wav) usually it doesn't carry viruses. it's those "application" files or .exe file that you need to be specially careful.

All e-mails are scanned by the yahoo virus protector, Nortons.
If the e-mail has a virus in it, it will be deleted before you see it.
If it says e-mail is safe, than it is safe. If you are still not sure, than use a firewall.
