Short term: yes, we will lose more American lives and probably more Iraqi lives. It's like being in front of a firing squad. Just because you put more people in front of you, you're still eventually gonna get hit...and so are all the people you stuck in front of you.
Long term: no, more American troops will lend itself to a greater ability to hunt out and destroy insurgents as well as bring stability as a quasi-police force.
