Persons have expressed that they don't receive additional answers during the 4-day extension period. I personally haven't found this to be the case. The number of answers isn’t as much as the first few minutes after postage, but many times people browsing through profiles, search results or specific categories of interest, will come across extended questions and submit a response. Also, the feature allowing persons to sort answers by response numbers allows some questions to get attention even after a day or so of being posted.

I think one of the reasons for the overwhelming number of questions that go into voting each day is the reality that many people are so preoccupied with activities during the week, they don't get a chance to sit out the 4-hour wait before being allowed to choose a Best Answer...nor do they get to 'beat' the 3-4 day limit before their question expires and automatically goes into voting.

Persons can extend questions immediately after postage; however, based on the growing number of undecided question in Y!A, this doesn’t seem to be working. Many times the answers chosen when a question goes into voting aren’t satisfactory. Voters either vote for themselves, or simply chose first answers chiefly for point rewards. Only a few persons actually seem to read the responses. All this does is cause the people who actually spend time and effort formulating *good* answers to become discouraged.

All this considered, I think the Answers Staff should contemplate extending the expiration date…and perhaps even making the extending option a bit more prominent; a lot of users don’t know this feature exists.

Thanks to everyone for sharing.

Maybe a little longer because maybe the person who has asked the question hasn't found the answer they want yet and with a little more time they will have a bigger chance to find what they are looking for.

you can extend it to 7 days if you want. But i never really noticed that I get more answers that way. Too many other questions asked after mine.

No, when I have extended the time on my questions, I have never gotten more answers by doing that.
