The earth rotates, because the solar system was created from a rotating disc of stellar dust. Once the earth was formed it got some of the rotation energy (angular momentum) of the disc. Since it's rotating in empty space there is no friction to stop the rotation (except the tidal forces from the Moon which actually slows down the rotation on a timescale of billions of years). It is an important law of nature that the amount of rotation (angular momentum to be precise) is conserved for a system. You may ask then, why was the disc of steller dust rotating: I don't have a precise answer to that, but everything in the universe is rotating, including the whole Milky Way.

the earth spins on a axis because millions of years ago there was some other object or planet in the solar system as big as earth. and some how they both crashed into each other . the other object was completly destroyed. but earth wasnt. and the pieces of rock and blah blah blah from the other object rotated around earth until gravity did its thing and over the years it turnded into a ball. like when u roll a snow ball around a hill it picks up everything with it and the ball gets bigger. any way that bll became the moon.....BUT back to earth ... before the big crash with the other object earth was a big hot planet. magma lava everywhere. and when it crashed into the other object it turned earth a little side ways. thus making the seasons on earth because the even amount of sunlight on parts of earth . and oooh yea.... this is how we got water on earth... well... if u know basic stuff about the solar system u know there is a asteroid belt between mars and jupiter.. well there are h20 or water particles and stuff inside of asteroids. and jupiter has a strong gravitational pull right. so jupiter pulled on them little asteroids and swung them every where. and scientist believe that some of them might have hit the earth. and when they did of course they made craters. and after the craters the h20 or water particles and molecules released and filled up the craters..... and made lakes oceans and blah blah blah. well there u go :)

The main reason is the interaction of the sun and the earth gravitational pulls. In a smaller way the gravitational pulls of other planets contribute to the reason.
Of course there are several factors that affect the gravitational pulls eg Mass, centripedal forces etc

Our planet's rotation is what forms north and south magnetic poles within our planet. As our planet rotates lines of force increase as one moves from either pole toward the equator (this force of rotation forms what is called the Coriolis force, which causes winds and water to move in different directions in either hemisphere). When the opposite forces meet thorough the plane of our equator they cause a shearing action through the plasma in that area. When a shearing action occurs in a plasma magnetic lines form at right angles to the shearing action - thus our magnetic poles.

Rotation is how we stabilize the space craft. In a space craft that we ride in we use several gyro and orient them before take off ,and they will point the same direction as long as they rotate. Has nothing to do with magnetics or gravity.

nobody can say precisly that why earth & another planet are rotatating, there are many factor linked with this matter, like --- mass of the planet, density, distance between sun, or galaxy, distance between nearest planet, evantualy many reson make to rotate the planet,
