they don't really swim backwards, just freak out and try to get away. They will wriggle, but if they get caught in an ornament and go backwards, it WILL strip the gills, and that will kill them.

It causes a lot of stress and is unhealthy for the fish, so I wouldn't do anything that would make them want to run from you.

How would you do this? Not all fish are capable, and the once that are can hardly move in that direction. Either nothing nothing would happen, the fish would turn and swim away normally or the fish would move so slowly backwards it would make a snail look fast.

You can not make a fish swim forwards or backwards.

why would u want it to swim backwards. if u like your fish don't do it

The fish would not be able to breath, to get oxygen a fish has to swin forwards so the water moves through the gillls.
