More connectivity, and more resources (information, processing power, files, computers, etc.)

It is the difference between a local area network and the Internet.

Much like a crowded city has advantages of easier access, more products, easier communication, transportation has over a smaller city.

Of course it has several disadvantages, which I'd be happy to answer as well if needed.
