First u have to add all the numbers up and then divided by how many there are so:

542/5=108.4

I believe you folks are confusing mean with average. You have all stated the average.

According to a definition in my dictionary, the mean is the middle point between two extremes. In this case, 120 would be in the middle if the numbers were placed in numerical order.
