I am a 911 Dispatcher and we get these calls frequently. We will usually just send a officer out to the area. He will run the plate and have us make phone contact with the registered owner t have them turn off the alarm. It is usually off by the time the officer gets there though.

This is sort of off topic but I read once to keep the remote to your car inside your house close at hand, then if you had prowlers you could sound the alarm from inside the house and either the cops would come (now I doubt that theory hehe) or you would scare the bejeesus out of the prowler. Another thing, a lady at a local shopping center saved herself and her child by using the remote while a guy was trying to shove her inside her car for a hijacking. True story. No, I dont hear that many car alarms here in the sticks. :-)

No, no no..do not call 911 unless there is an obvious crime in progress. If you look out your window and see something suspicious going on with the vehicle who's alarm is going off .. yes, dial 911. Report what you see! If it's just an alarm going off and you see nothing suspicious call a non-emergency number and report the noise disturbance. Hope that helps!

no, but i can recognize my own, and my car is parked about 30ft. from my house so if it went off I would hear it and recognize it, but it would piss everyone else off.
car alarms arent stupid, they are just made wrong. Heres my solution: when the alarm is going off, have it give a cell phone call to the owner so they can take the neccessary actions to prevent theft, instead of having it so everyone can hear it and thus defeat its purpose.

I suffered with a overly sensitive neighbor's alarm in apartment complex for months.. His alarm never alarmed him. Local police didn't care. So here's what I did: I left a note promising to reward his lack of concern for my good sleep with a brick. The threat was sufficient. problem solved!

Most alarms turn off at a certain point.
My advice: Confront your neighbour and tell him/her to get a new alarm which would do this, or file a complaint with the cops for nuisance/noise pollution, especially at the hour you mentioned.

NO. I hate them as well. I like going into parking garages and using an air horn to set them off

no, usually car alarms are from stuff hitting it, and if someone is breaking into a car as long as its not yours...you shouldn't really care
