I am not illegal, but I hear how mexicans and central and south american people are sometimes refered as trash or seen as money making objects (in favor of the American economy or against it)
All about money......
Will I be treated with respect and with dignity or my nationality in here means I am just a thing.

If you have any trouble, move to Canada. Its a little cooler in winter but we love everybody here! (Most of us do, anyway).

Not saying anything bad about America, I'm sure they're nice too!

Maybe Maybe not. In truth in America, people's personal opinion towards races and nationalities vary just like a snowflakes.
I don't think you will be treated bad though. It is possible. But I think you will do all right.
If your typing is any indication of your English speaking skill you will be better off than some Americans born here ;)
What ever negative personalities you may run into, don't let that discourage you. Americans, as a whole, are resilient. And you can also choose who you socialize with. Stay away form the haters.
Welcome to America! :)

Unfortunately, you should worry about being treated like trash. America is a very race conscious country and it seems as though we are in a silent war. Many times people will smile in your face, but as soon as you leave the room people may say things about you.

I once worked in an office that was filled with many races and one of the partners would make racist comments about people of different races, as long as they weren't in the room. He talked about everyone, but those who were Jewish. I just knew that when I left the office he more than likely talked about Blacks.

Since then I've heard people say things about people of many other races and from other countries, Indians, Chinese, Africans (they somehow think I'm completely disassociated from them), and yes, even Mexicans.

My advice to you though is just not worry about what others are going to say when you leave the room, just make sure you're being treated fairly. There are also many good people who aren't so judgmental, you'll be able to tell who truly likes you and who's just putting on a show.

I think a big respect issue for Americans is that you speak English. Be one of us and associate with other Americans. Unfortunately, I've seen many Mexican Americans that don't want to become a part of society in general. They only speak Spanish and hang out with only other Mexican Americans. This keeps them foreign to the rest of us. We are all in this together and to want to blend as an American will get you that respect.
You won't be seen as foreign or an object.

If you have been here a year and have to ask this question, I would say that you have nothing to worry about.

Americans respect people who work hard and behave themselves. The fact that you apparently have not run into trouble before now indicates that you are undoubtedly of this class.

I personally have no problem whatever with people of any nationality who come to America legally and help us continue to be the big melting pot where everyone who enters the country legally and pulls his or her weight is welcome.

If you are here legally please understand this entitles you to all the respect and dignity possible. feel as though there may be an advantage to you being in retail. not only in being able to talk to the customers in their own language but for another reason. there was a lady where I worked who spoke Spanish and She overheard a conversation in Spanish about what they were going to steal. She contacted the police and prevented a serious theft from taking place.
