You should try Mary Kay or Clinique. The representatives will sit down with you to ensure an exact match with your complexion. There is nothing worse than foundation that does not match face. You should also ask pick cheek and eye colors that complement you and your clothing. As you are a novice, you should go for a neutral look and build from there. Try for looks that will make people notice your skin not all of the colors. Don't forget that you will need to take care of your skin with cleanser, toner, and moisturizer every morning and evening. You can have the best cosmetics in the world; but if you do not take good care of your skin, then the finished product will not be what you want.

Check out Bare Minerals by Bare Escentuals. I've been wearing it for 4 years now & I love it. It doesn't clog my pores, I control the coverage and it has SPF 15.
If you're near either a Bare Escentuals boutique or Sephora store stop in and check it out. Both carry a starter kit which is $60-75. It has 2 foundation shades, warmth, mineral veil, 3 brushes, bare vitamins skin rever upper and the instructional DVD.
Just make sure that when youre matching the color to your skin you try it along your jaw line, that way you'll be sure it matches your neck and you won't get that nasty line of demarcation. Also if you do decide to try it make sure you watch the DVD, it explains how to put it on and how much to use. A little will go a long way.
Give it a try you have nothing to lose except the time to get it and if you don't like it, return it.

I like Cover Girl and Maybelline products to start. Inexpensive to experiment with but good quality.
After you have tried a few things on your own and with friends, get your mom or someone to take you to places that do your makeup for you to learn from the pros.
Upscale department stores have people to show you how to use their products, but no mandatory purchase is usually necessary.
Also 'Glamour Shots' and some photo ops will do your makeup and hair, then take your pictures. You choose whether or not to buy the pics then.

I love using covergirl foundations, powders, and blushes. For eye makeup you should start using the almay eyeshadow, eyeliner, and mascara that brings out the color of your eye. This is good because when you first start wearing makeup you may not know what eyeshadow will look good on you. When I first started wearing eyeshadow I wore bright, baby blue eyeshadow and it looked horrible.lol.Good luck.

Wal-mart - Cover Girl or Max Factor.
Merle Norman is really good.
Department store make-up is the best, but it is very expensive. I wouldn't start with it. However, you can go to a department store and get a free make-over which will help you learn to use make-up the correct way! Take advantage of it... it's free and a fun thing to do!!!

If your skin is not sensitive You can use a brand called Love My Face it is inexpensive to practice with.Of couse if you have sensitive skin use one of the better brands one is physicians formula but there are others I just can't think of them now. Start out with a lipgloss or focus on your eyes don't use no foundation till you really get use to it you probaly don't need it.

Try physicians formula, it is safe to skin, wont clog pores, wont cause breakouts, and is a good product line.
You want more natural for young skin.
Remember to prevent moisture loss and keep your skin looking nice, use a moisturizer with sunscreen. Those that dont use the protection get saggy or wrinkles early. Protect your skin now.

the best place to by makup is walgreens, they always have something on sale. start with the cheap makeup then work your way up. your next step is talk to someone who works at a make up counter, they will try to sell you makeup but they will also give you tips and tricks on how to apply it. my personal fav. is mac but it is expensive. you need to take little steps.

It really depends on you and your skin type. Although after you try different products for a while you'll figure which one suits you best.
Anyway, for starters you might want to try Maybelline, Cover Girl is also good but I really prefer Maybelline. After a while you can try other brands and see which one's better for you.
Good Luck! :)

Wet N' Wild has THEE cheapest makeup, and it isn't bad quality. covergirl and maybelinne are also inexpensive.
i wouldn't go overboard with makeup, and cover up your natural self, trying to look like everyone else. mascara really helps to make you look better and that's about all you need for everyday use.
