Like most people in Canada, we couldn't be more thrilled that we have the GOLD! Quite amazing 3 goals, 1 period. I'm curious, because Canada and the U.S have always been rivals...was the U.S cheering for us or those annoying Russians?

Although rivals, I think the mentality that is common in many Canadian circles is also prevalent here in the US. We applaud the good plays (even if they are not done by the US Team) and frown on bad play and poor sportsmanship.

That being said, I was cheering for Canada since they beat us in that overtime / shootout marathon earlier in the week.

I've lived on both sides of the border and I don't think IIHF tournaments have much of a profile in the US. If it's not NCAA, NHL or Olympic hockey Americans just don't take much of an interest. The IIHF worlds will be in Quebec city and Halifax next year, so it will be interesting to see if any US cable operators actually carry them given that they will be in prime time on the east coast.

P.S.-I hope Moncton keeps Bourdon-Go Wildcats!

I was curious too and I was going to ask the same question. I guessed that they either didn't care either way or they weren't even aware of the tournament and it seems I am right.

Of course us Canadians care, win or lose, but thankfully we won this time. Way to go boys! O Canada, our home and native land...
