Did you gain weight when you quit?
I'm afraid to gain weight if I quit. I know it sounds shallow, but I'm self-conscious about my weight and I want to remain thin.
Genetically my family is very overweight and just cannot take it off, and I don't want to enter that realm.

I am 20 and have been smoking since I was 15. I know its terrible and I really want to quit but its sooooooooooooo hard. As far as weight gain...Im really not that worried about it. I would rather gain a few pounds than die of lung cancer, but I guess the best way to quit is to use the patch and every time you feel like you want to smoke, take a walk or do something active. Then you don't really have to worry about weight gain. If you feel like you want to eat something when you have a craving, eat a carrot stick or celery. Then you don't have to worry about weight gain when you are quitting. Good luck to you.

I smoked when I was a teenager and then when I found out I was pregnant I quit but I didnt know if I gained weight because I was gaining weight from the pregnancy...But I started back up after he was born and had to quit cause I was scared to smoke around him and then I just wanted to eat because your so use to putting your hand to your mouth and I gained about 10Lbs from quitting but if you eat healthy foods while you are quitting then you shouldn't gain anything but maybe a few pds or you might not gain any at all if you stick to a good diet...

The last time i quit (for 8 months) i didn't gain a pound because i kept very active. This time (6 full days in) i'm nervous. The weather outside is crappy and i don't wanna go out in it . But i know to curb the urges to smoke and eat i'll have to. But i whole heartedly agree with the others, 5 or 10 pounds you MAY put on is better than a round of chemo, or a visit to the funeral home for your own party.

you may gain weight, but isn't it better to gain a little weight than die from lung cancer, heart disease, or getting yellow teeth, bad breath, or walking a flight of stairs out of breath? You can always loose the weight by just controlling what you eat, going on a diet, getting a trainer, go running, etc but you cannot get rid of cancer or that other effects as easily. If you have trouble getting off smoking, there are programs everywhere ready to help you or you can just slowly lower the amount of cigeretts you have a day. hope this helped and good luck!!

I have never smoked and never will but my grandma did. She went to hypnosis to get rid of her smoking and she did not gain a pound, just make sure NOT to replace food as a supplement for cigarettes. Eat the same way you did before and exercise to lose any pouds you gained and don't worry you are not shallow no one wants to gain weight (with a few exceptions^_^) but remember lung cancer is way worse

Good luck with quitting

Yes I did and I did not gain weight when I quit. If you want to remain thin just don't eat a bunch of junk.

Yeah like he said all the things that come with smoking is sooo not worth a little weight. At least weight can be worked off. But smoking, it rots your teeth, gives you lung cancer, and makes you smell. I really hope you look into quitting seriously. But whatever you do, i hope it works out for you!

yup smoked 4 packs a day for 7 years. Quit cold turkey and some of my family is overweight. Most importantly what also runs in my family is diabetes, cancer, high blood pressure, and emphysema. alot easier to get rid of a few extra pounds then it is trying to get rid of any of the above named affllictions. Good luck and God speed. Been a non smoker for over ten years now.

I used to smoke and no I didn't gain any weight when I quit, besides there are other factors involved like eating right and exercising. If you're serious about quiting, do it, but you have to be determined.
