the metabolism in most fish slow or stop completely in the winter. They can go long periods without eating once the water has dropped below 50. However if you start feeding these newcomers, the other fish in your pond may or will eat as well. The toxins built up in their system will kill them over the winter months.

If they are the only fish in your pond, I would still not feed until spring. If they were wild caught, I would suggest a wild fish food, worms, bloodworms, mesquito larve.

Remember when the pond freezes over, do not chip at the ice. this causes shock waves and can ultimately harm your fish.

Once the water temperatures go below 50 degrees fahrenheit, you can stop feeding them until Spring.

Remember, fish cannot digest their food if the temperature drops below 50 F.

if the weather doesn't drop 50 F, then you can feed them flakes and wheat germ and place them on the pond.

hope that helps.

If the fish are active they need food. If the pond freezes over, the point is moot, you can't feed them.

Fish need to eat. Contact the DNR and ask them about getting some pellets. Or you might find something at a nursey. Large pet stores would have something too. The DNR would know what they eat though.

Yes they need to eat! Every animal does. I am a vet. The food you should feed them is dependable depending on the size and type. Go to a pet store and ask!
