Maybe one of the ways of reducing fuel usage would be to develop working-from-home initiatives. With today's technology it should be relatively easy to do. Most people, especially professionals, have home computing systems and there are many who do jobs which could be done away from the office. Even if only some days a week.
There must be lots of studies on the internet you could research about the subject.
Good luck with your essay!

Anything done to reduce global warming will make absolutely no difference whatsoever, until the world's biggest polluters (Stastes, China) wake up and take action.

Yeah, look up online things about hydrogen fuel, hybrid cars, and biodiesel. Suggest public transportation so that less people drive. Governments should have tax incentives for customers buying fuel efficient cars.

Personally I'm a fan of global warming, but if you're going to be a wuss about it, check out this blog www.autobloggreen.com.

There are tons of posts and links to articles concerning automotive industry news relating to all this commie granola-crunching stuff.
