Seroquel is a major tranquilizer is and used to manage agitation as well as other sign and symptoms of psychotic disorders. In the 16 years I have been a psychiatric nurse, I have rarely heard reports of bad dreams with it use. However, they can occur, and seem to be more problematic in patients who have schizophrenia. These "bad dreams" do tend to go away once the therapeutic antipsychotic blood level has been achieved. As far as the weight gain question.."Yes", weight gain is a classic probelm for those taking seroquel, and that is why weight management needs to be monitored during its use. In one study I read, a patient gained 25 pounds while taking this medication. The primary reason is that seroquel, like smoking marijauna, gives you a case of the munchies. Hope this helps!!!
