At some points in the 60's & 70's , cool meant stoned. In the 40's & 50's cool was clean , well-behaved and white. so , it's really a variable thing.
So the answer to your question depends on age , personality and how exactly you define cool.
As a general rule , humans always want acceptance from their peers , if that comes through becoming "cool" then cool it will be.
