The finest thing that used to be available was Renardine. Not only did it deter the cats it made them leave the neighbourhood altogether. Unfortunately it's now a banned substance.

Crushed garlic works. Put plenty of cloves all around the garden and crush them with something like a brick. If your feeling extravagant you can buy it ready crushed in jars then it's just a matter of firing it out from a teaspoon.

If it rains you'll have to redo the process but it does work. Eventually they'll find somewhere else to wreck so don't worry about the smell of garlic, it's only a short term issue to move the cats on.

Can you install a gate or a fence? If the urine is on a hard surface then you are not getting all the scent cleaned up. They can still smell it so they continue to use the same area. Placing a litter box in the area can help. When they get used to using it instead, start to move it further away. Soft surfaces (usually indoors) have had some luck with a layer of tin foil. They seem to hate the feel of it on their pads. If it is not urine and it is in fact "Spray" That's a whole other problem. Do you have a cat? Has it been spayed or neutered? Talk to your vet or an herbalist, they may have some other ideas. Perhaps there is a natural herb you can plant that will repel them.

Try planting some Coleus canina variegated aka ScardyCat. It has a smell that cats, dogs and rabbits avoid. It's available from Thompson & Morgan to buy online at:

http://plants.thompson-morgan.com/uk/en/product/1593/1

This is the description:

Experiments with over 300 plants have now produced the ultimate deterrent.

If you've got problems with unwelcome cats, dogs and rabbits in your garden, then what you need is the Scardy Cat® plant. This attractive coleus has a nasty secret that unsuspecting, furry intruders soon discover when they get too close.

Its pretty, variegated foliage releases a stench they simply can't stand and they soon scarper. Thankfully it only smells to the human nose when touched!

Annual, but can easily be propagated and cuttings kept in a frost-free place over winter. Plants need to be established before the smell is released, be in drier rather than wet soil and planted every 1-2 metres (36 inches apart)

Supplied as cell-raised plants.

Boy, you sure have a lot of answers.
I used to tell my neighbor that if my cats were on their property to give thim a little squirt with the hose. That doesn't hurt them but they're not stupid, they don't like to go where they are not welcome. There are also things in the garden centers that smell bad to them and might keep them away. Good Luck, I know it is frustrating. Every time there is a new bed made, they think you did it for them. Now I have no cats and miss them.

there is an old wives tale of cut an empty pop bottle in half .fill it with water ( if you use the top make sure the top is on the neck ) and place a few around the garden that keeps them away, or it gives them a drink. try it and find out

they like the loose soil to dig before going. Hot pepper juice in a spray bottle will work. Just keep it up or as it fades they will be back. If it is a vegtable garden it's dangerous for you cat crap can make your plants toxic

i paid £8 for a cat deterant and alls it turned out to be was ground white pepper and garlic try making your own its worth a go. some people say orange peel works good but i tried it and the cats use to just bury it in the end i used the hose pipe on the suckers they soon stopped coming in and run a mile when they see me so i would say hose pipe them is the best bet. i dont mean to be cruel but a bit of water isnt going to kill them is it
