It is much like other things we do. It's a way to create, to express yourself and a way to do it that other people value enough to pay for.

In some ways chemistry is like cooking. You have certain ingredients that you study to find out what you can do with them, and after you have that down, you create and invent.

Because what you can create or invent is useful, people pay you for the ability to do so. Like a baker or a builder or a writer. And the things you create with are fundamental parts of the world, you feel as if you are some minor magician who can take the fundamental 'what is' and create the 'what may be'. Very satisfying.

I decided to have chemistry as one of my majors, I am a double major in biology and chemistry, because it is interesting to me due to its challenging nature. I make goals and choices based on a desire to challenge myself, and improve an area of my life. In my opinion challenging subjects should not be avoided but embraced if one wants to grow and work on their analytical, problem solving, as well as critical thinking skills. Furthermore, it is required that a student that desires to go to medical school, such as myself, takes inorganic and organic chemistry classes.
