Hello, I have recently switched birth contol pills from Ortho Nuvom to Ortho Tri Cyclin Lo. I am 14 days into my first pack on the new medication and today I got some vaginal spotting. I am wondering if this is normal because of the switch of pills, or should I be worried about anything? Hope to get some help. Thank You.

Spotting is a very normal side effect of starting new birth control. Just like when you first started the pill, when you switch brands, you should also give your body about 3 months to adjust to any new side effects and to kind of work through them.

If it continues past the 3 month mark, or if it's really not something you can deal with, you can talk to your health care provider about switching pills. Even then, though, spotting is generally a "nuisance side effect" and not an indication that your pills aren't working (provided you're taking them correctly).

Good luck!

Yes, spotting is perfectly normal when you switch pills, especially when you switch to a low dose pill like Ortho Tri Cyclin Lo. If it persists for more than 3 months, talk to a doctor.

No need to worry. Irregular vaginal spotting is expected in the beginning of a new regimen or when switching to different pills. When using birth control pills the spotting fades away over time as your body gets use to the pill. Take them faithfully, and at the same time preferably at bedtime to reduce experiencing side effects such as nausea.

I haven't had personal experience switching from Ortho Novum to Ortho TriCyclen Lo, but when I switched from regular Ortho TriCyclen to the Lo dosage I experienced spotting and major bloating. I would imagine even the slightest changes in this type of hormone therapy could cause spotting as in your case.

Yes. This is normal . When I switched my birth control pills i had the same thing happen. It's due to the different level of estrogen in the pill. Don't worry about it. Once your body gets used to the new level you will stop spotting.

the estrogen in the pills might be too low for you as this can cause spotting. You may need to go back on the other or a pill that contains more estrogen.

Birth control can do crazy things to your body, and spotting is one of them.

Perfectly normal, but call your doc on Monday and talk to the nurse just to make sure.
