Two ideas.
1. The pet stores like PetsMart sells a spray on shampoo for small critters like a guinea pig. I got this, all you do is spray it over your piggy and work it in then. Then comb them and keep them dry.
2. Get a bucket, preferably a high one because they WILL try to jump out! Mine did at least four times. Only put a little water in, enough to cover their feet. Keep it warm in your house when you do this, you do not want them getting cold. Buy a shampoo at the pet store that is for small animals. A friend told me that cat shampoo works but stick with the guinea pig shampoo (I found it in the GP aisle). Try to get the kind that won't irritate their eyes, it should say so on the bottle.
Lather them up, wash them. They will hate you. They will protest and struggle. But get them all nice and soapy. I avoid the mouth area. Then I wash them off in lukewarm water in the sink. Get it all off them.
The most important thing is to dry them off. Keep them wrapped in a towel and really let them dry. You don't want them back in the cage cold or with wet hair. This will take you maybe half an hour, so stay with them and let them dry.
They will be happy once they are done!

Yes people bathe them and of course your pig is scared, its unnatural to him. G.Pigs are from the high Andies where it is dry and cool, no reason to ever get wet. Now you're taking that animal and making it wet.
If you have a long haired g. pig go for it if you need to to maintain the coat. Otherwise, I suggest other leave on products you can use when the pig is dry. Check the rodent section of your local reputable pet shop.

You should never bathe a guinea pig. Guinea pigs are rodents that keep clean themselves, even if it doesn't smell like it. If you try bathing a guinea pig, it'll start losing its fur more often by shedding alot more. I definitely don't reccomend you to bathe a guinea pig. I know what I'm telling you.

Mrjohntesh's answer is great, I've had guinea pigs for 15 years and that's how I bathe mine. :)
Make sure the water, while not hot, isn't cold...I accidently tried to rinse one of my piggies once with water that was too cold, and ended up with claw marks all over my forearms when she decided she didn't like it! Feeding them carrots afterwards also works wonders and eases some of the trauma!

Yes - we bath our guinea pig. We put a washcloth down for him to stand on. Ours also tries to get out. We just go right on bathing him. He loves it after, when he is all snuggled up in towel.

guinea pigs don't generally need baths especially if they are kept indoors the same as a cat they keep themselves pretty clean and if you bath them too much they can get dry skin problems even with a good conditioning shampoo which can lead to sores and infections i would'nt bother with bathing unless absolutely necessary.
