Can the Play Station III record tv programs?

Instead of getting a high definition recorder from DirecTV, can a Play Station III with its Blu-Ray technology record programming?

No. It has a BluRay DVD player, not a recorder. Unless you plan on modding the PS3, you will not be able to record any shows.
