This is typical of someone who has quit, or was fired on the spot.
For those who get relieved or the company new they were letting you go they would have the check all ready for you. Be lucky you only have to wait days instead of weeks.

I have quit many jobs, and it depends on the company. If they are mad that you give a short notice, they will drag their feet in paying you.
One company told me because they were tied into a bank payroll account, it would be easier to wait and pay me with their regular payroll cycle. I told them that I gave a fair notice, and that it would be a financial hardship to wait another week. I got my check on my final day.
I worked in payroll for many years, and we paid people on their final day. We had a termination slip, and each department had to sign off that the person was cleared with their department. The department person was signing that they had collected all company equipment, tools, phones, pagers, keys, ID badges, etc.
The terminating employee would bring the slip to payroll and sign a release for their last check. We made sure that our records were current , that we had their home address for mailing of the W-4 at the end of the year.

If youe termination date was preset, meaning that you knew in advance when your last day was, you could've had them get a check ready for you. As a lot of companies outsource their payrolls these days you can generally expect to get your last check on the next scheduled payday.

Not unusual here in the US. When I left my last job I had to wait until the next normal pay day for my last pay, which is very common.

If you live in the USA they have to have your check ready for you at the end of your last day if you have given a certain amount of notice, Otherwise they have around two business days to make it available to you. Search on-line for more info...
