Thanks is the short form of Thanking you.
Thnx. is the most generally accepted short form of "thanks".

Why? Is thanks too long to type out?

Unless you mean in a text message (which is the only time i think you should EVER use shortened versions of not very long words) in which case it doesn't really matter as long as the person you are texting understands what your shortening.
So tks or thx would work if they understood them. Hell even 'ta' or something would work if the other person knows what you mean.

I was a radio ham in the 70's. We use TKS in morse as abbreviation of thanks. I think "messaging" is like morse some how, and the people try to be short,... no reason to do it....but in morse it's justified

Since we influenced in how communication evolved, maybe, there remains some debris like tks. also from military comm.Please search for morse abbreviations.

According to Stanford & Oxford Dictionary, it should be thx. Someone said thnx is come from Dictionary, thnx is the first time I ever see, I wonder what kind of dictionary he/she use, please don t misleading!!
