The "best" to buy is all dependent on what your looking for.
My husband was in a wheelchair and paralyzed from waist down so he bought a 1957 Harley Panhead and had it converted to trike using a Knucklehead frame with suicide shift and all hand controls. He and my toddler son had many happy hours out riding. After my husband's passing, I've maintained the trike but went back to foot controls on shifting and rear brakes.
The availability today of many ways to switch to a trike is really great for those that want to ride but find that the passage of time has made it hard on themselves to continue on 2 wheels. The Honda trikes are really nice looking as are the Harleys. The cost has a lot to do with choices, so I think the term "best" is per individual, not as a whole.
Getting the setup that allows you to keep your rear tire is a great idea to allow an owner to keep their original bike but making it easier for them to handle!
I have family members who ride VW trikes using Volkswagon motors and they love them above all others, so its always going to be a question of individuality. Just as I love my Harley Trike above others.
I find riding is a joy all its own regardless of what "brands" you ride. Good luck with the trikes Im sure you'll love it.

I like the appeal of trikes too and was able to ride 1 before the end of the season in 2006, you need a good half hour to get used to the ride and the way the trike turns as being a biker I wanted to lean over to turn but it didn't work!!
Good Luck
ps expensive business though

Get BSH magazine. Theres always ads in there for new and second hand trikes. I personally prefer bike derived ones myself. I've seen a couple based on the V Max and they look the Boll#x.
Chris Ireland at Desperate Dans used to make some beauties but I don't know whats happened to him. I think he moved out Southend way.
Happy triking!

The 1700cc Rewaco is very nice my grandfather bought a brand new one 2 years ago, he wanted to carry on biking even though he's disabled and 78 years old. They are quite expensive I think he paid about £13000. Also while out on a ride one Sunday I saw a couple of trikes built by trike shop UK. One was a 1300 Suzuki Hyabusa trike excellent finish as though it was built by Suzuki them selves and believe me even though its gained an extra wheel it is just as fast.

Well....my best friend just had one built, based on a 2006 Honda Goldwing. In doing the aforementioned he, and I, did alot of research on the various kits on the market and found that over all in appearence, performance/function the California Side Car kit was superior. Just to note one item the rear suspension on the rest are solid axle, which means they are jumpy and rough over bumps, whereas the California Side Car kit has independent suspension, which gives better handling/control and ride.

Depends on your definition of 'best'.
Cheap to buy and run: Reliant Robin or VW Beetle engine.
Fast: anything based around a big Japanese 4-cylinder motor.
Cool: Harley, Victory or Indian engine
Reliable: anything with a modern Ford car engine.
Load lugger: Rover V8 based.
Mad: Boss Hoss or Jaguar V12.

Elana - i can't relate for your seize 22 challenge because i don't have 2 little ones (merely one) and my daughter change into driving a peddle motorbike without education wheels by the time she change into 3. i don't believe of she EVER owned a tricycle. So i'm bias, my female change into driving a stryder even as she change into 2 and a bike even as she change into 3... i'm vulnerable to allow you to already know to get him a bicycle and teach him a thanks to experience - enable him use toddler brother's 3-a million if he needs.. he's way too youthful for something like that.
