Doubtful. As long as simple minds scoff at the idea just because Gore takes it seriously (as if he's the only one, right?), we'll just go on nursing at the teat of big oil and buying Hummers and denying the fact that warming is now occurring over most of the globe.

These recent temperature changes are consistent with the global retreat of mountain glaciers, reduction in snow-cover extent, the earlier spring melting of ice on rivers and lakes, and increases in sea-surface temperatures and ocean heat content.

Just this year, our DNR was amazed to uncover evidence of a species of jellyfish (small; not like the larger salt water kind) appearing in midwestern lakes. One of the first things looked at was the temperature changes in those lakes.

And, as I told another "scoffer," the average low for January where I'm at is 7-10 F. It is now 40 F.
This will likely be one of the warmest winters on record, and part of a consistent warming trend during the past few years.

This will have an interesting effect on horticultural pests, wildlife populations (huge whitetail deer increase) amongst other things.

Snowmobile sales and recreation has been in sharp decline locally (not that I own or use one) and the winter tourist business has reflected that.

So naaaaaaaa, there ain't no stinkin' "global warming"

It's all just conspiracy, smoke and mirrors.

Riiiiiight.

I think that we are trying to do something.

The problem is that we have become dependent on fossil fuels for travel. Will you give up cars, busses, airplanes, ambulances. Will you give up electric lights, computers, lawnmowers.

So What are you going to do about global warming?

Each of us can help in small ways. If your rich buy one small hybrid car to go shopping. You don't need a huge SUV for that. Insulate your house well. Buy energy saving bulbs. Forget the bottled water.

Nope.

If you are looking to politicians to solve any important problems you are in deep trouble - which is to say, we're all in deep trouble.

currently our politicians are the lowest quality people in the nation and are the least equipped to deal with any problems, let alone serious ones.

if anything is going to happen, WE will think of it and FORCE our govt to go along...
