Spam refers to electronic junk mail or junk newsgroup postings. Some people define spam even more generally as any unsolicited e-mail. In addition to being a nuisance, spam also eats up a lot of network bandwidth. Because the Internet is a public network, little can be done to prevent spam, just as it is impossible to prevent junk mail. However, the use of software filters in e-mail programs can be used to remove most spam sent through e-mail.

Any un-solicited commercial message can be considered spam, including postings to message boards (multiple posts of the same ad) and classified ads (category spamming)...when learning to market a new site, it's pretty thin ice.

You can be accused of spamming the search engines, and even banned from submissions, by posting your site too often (once per month is adequate) or thru doorway pages...Most messageboards that allow commercial ads (not all do) will have a section set aside for that purpose, and a commercial message anywhere else on the boards is spam.

A few people have attempted to spam these answer boards with commercial ads disguised (not too well) as questions.

You can refer your website all day long; This is your right, and if starting a new home business, your obligation to yourself...just take care to advertise properly and responsibly.

There's a place for ads, and there are a lot of places where people will be irritated by ads...To survive as a new business owner, you'll need to begin noticing the difference between the two.

Do a Yahoo for "free advertising", and you'll get enough leads to keep you busy for months.

Spam is the name of a canned spiced ham meat which was created as a cheap form of meat with a long shelflife. It was turned into a joke when the british comedy group Monty Python fetured it in a skit where a everything that a diner in the skit surved contained spam, which lead to the repeating of the word often in the skit, and a group of vikings, who for some odd reason was hanging around the establishment starting into a couris of "lovely spam, wonderful spam", this was attributed to the fact that at the time of the skit spam was one of the more popular meats, even though no one seemed to like it, on the market in GB and was all over the place. This was later translated by the internet persons (GEEKS), who were also known for their love of monty python, to discribe the over abondance of the unwanted e-mail and advertiesments on the web.

Spam is flooding the Internet with many copies of the same message, in an attempt to force the message on people who would not otherwise choose to receive it. Most spam is commercial advertising, often for dubious products, get-rich-quick schemes, or quasi-legal services. Spam costs the sender very little to send -- most of the costs are paid for by the recipient or the carriers rather than by the sender.

Spam email or junk email is unwanted email received by the recipient. Almost every internet user will have received emails promising millions of dollars from corrupt politicians. Many hours are wasted due to spam email. However, by taking simple precautions while giving out your email and installing updated free software, you can prevent spam. More info available at

Yes, your posting of that website is considered "abuse" by Yahoo and I'm sure someone will report it. It falls into more than one category of abuse.
Maybe you could think of a different way to word it.
