I'm a horrible song writer. It's incredibly hard for me to get across what I want to say on paper. And if I do end up writing something I completely hate it the next day. Any suggestions?

Write what YOU understand, it doesn't matter if other peole don't get it. You want to have fans that will understand what you wrote. If they don't get your writting, let them move on to other song writters, you don't want fans that only like the instamental part of music...

Hope I helped!

Song writing isn't easy, first write down your thoughts. Then go back and work on word changes and struckture. A song has to have meter, having a melody helps. Every line can have the same number of words or different amount of words. Line one 7 words, line two 7 words, line three may have 5 words, line six may have 5 to 7 words. It's sort of like doing math. I have wtitten and co wrote many songs, it takes work. Some songs I have re-written as many as 30 or more times to get it right. Good luck and keep pluging away at it, sooner or later you'll get it right. A book that may help you. The Billboard Book Of Song Writing. Billboard Publications, Inc./ New York.

The best bet with song writing, like any other kind of writing, is to work at it. Almost anything in this world takes hard work to get good at.

I don't write songs per se, but I do write poetry. For myself, the easiest thing for me to do was experiment with different styles, and check out the styles of different poets until I found something unique to me. After a lot of trial and error, I got some things I was happy with.

And no one has a time where they like everything they write. Some things are just flops, and you have to keep working to improve.

I feel the same as you do. But, I know that if you have written good poems then you can make them into really great songs... Maybe you should write poems first and then make them into song lyrics. Wish you the best of luck!

keep practicing or take a creative writing course. It took me several years to be able to translate thoughts into words for music.
