Ok gang - we are getting closer. The movie The Illustrated Man is based on the Ray Bradbury story.... BUT the movie Im talking about was based JUST on the one short story about THE VELDT.... the movie Im thinking of did not have anything about the tattoed man in it, just the house.
Thanks for all the help though... I had forgotten the clue about Ray Bradbury.

Not Smart House.... similar but the one Im thinking of was definatly darker and the family gets eaten in the end.

It is a much older movie, I remmeber seeing it on tv so this pre-dates VCRs.... (sorry dating myself here).

If I remember correctly, The Illustrated Man was a collection of short stories centering around a tattooed man whom the narrator meets. Each of his tattoos when you look at it tells a different story, one of which is The Veldt.

There are two movies that you may be thinking of. The Illustrated Man was released in 1969 and starred Rod Steiger. There was also a movie from Russia sometime in the mid 80's called Veld that was based on that short story. Hope that helps, try searching on www.imdb.com there may be some more info there.

Okay then! Closer it is. There was a short TV movie version made in 1979 called The Veldt, but there is no mention of it on imdb. Nor does there seem to be any versions available for purchase.

I don't know if this is what you are looking for, but Disney made a movie called "Smart House" that is based on the same plot.
