The Illustrated Man, by Ray Bradbury... also know an THE VELDT.
In the story a family lives in an automated house and the nursery eventually comes to life and lions eat the family.
Book is from the late 50's... movie is late 70's early 80's.

Ok gang - we are getting closer. The movie The Illustrated Man is based on the Ray Bradbury story.... BUT the movie Im talking about was based JUST on the one short story about THE VELDT.... the movie Im thinking of did not have anything about the tattoed man in it, just the house.
Thanks for all the help though... I had forgotten the clue about Ray Bradbury.

Not Smart House.... similar but the one Im thinking of was definatly darker and the family gets eaten in the end.
It is a much older movie, I remmeber seeing it on tv so this pre-dates VCRs.... (sorry dating myself here).
