What do you think? The Danes are supposed to be the happiest people in Europe...

By Europe I mean countries on the continent.

No, you idiots, Europe is a continent, Britain is an island, which is considered politically to be part of it. Keep up!

can't imagine western/central europeans being too much happier than us, our lifestyles are fairly similar. however, brits tend to think we've got it worse than we really have and don't appreciate what we've got; eastern europeans certainly have a lower quality of life than us. anyway, how do you judge happiness?

i can imagine that's about right for denmark....doesn't have too many social problems, they're pretty liberal, the government's complacent and they have low levels of immigration/population density. not much is expected of them in world politics, and they try to make life as aesthetically pleasing as possible (the netherlands take this to the extreme and it's caused problems)

I totally agree with you but i don't think it's the people per se, rather it's the lifestyle we have imposed on us. Our children work longer hours in schools, take more exams and study more subjects than any other countries. Because of the crime rates on britain they can't play out safely any more even if they have finished their piles of home work. When they have finished school they are faced with the dilemma of higher education, where again they are expected to achieve higher standards each year or enter a job where they are likely to struggle to get a mortgage.

Adults are constantly expected to meet varying deadlines, meetings, and standards whilst not insulting the varying minorities in the work place which becomes more and more impossible thanks to the interfering from the human rights activists who take their role way too seriously (against the human rights of drug addicts not to supply their addiction whilst in prison??? whats that about).

Work hours get longer in Britain and whilst we may not have the longest working day in europe, unless you work in a care setting, the work rate we are expected to adhere to means that we easily outwork most other european countries and god help if you are a measly 10 minutes late because that extra hour you did last night unpaid doesn't cancel it out!

It's becoming increasingly harder to get on the housing ladder but you are frowned upon if you remain with your parents beyond the age of 23.

People are increasingly getting into dept then have to take out IVA's or bancruptcy and again are frowned upon and we are expected to cope with all of this whilst displaying the british stiff upper lip because complaining or asking for help is deemed to be generally weak or simply not the british way!

And you wonder why we are not happy?

In my opinion the British culture has become a one way ticket to stress and depression. For the record 50 percent of the british people are being treated for stress, depression or both and this does not include those who do not seek help. Higher than all other european countries!

Is Britain not in Europe then?

If you mean the rest of the Europeans then i'd say yes as they dont have a stitch up government like ours.

i think he means contintental europeans brit arizona. Anyway yes danes i supposed to be quite chirpy although i'd have to see it to believe it. Brits are 24th on the happy chart. Nigeria in africa is the happiest in world. USA and australia both top uk. Eastern europeans are less happy than brits but we do not beat denmark for happiness. Sorry not sure where other western europeans fall on the happy chart, similar to uk i suspect.
