The truck is a V6 auto, and it broke down; wouldn't go anywhere. I replaced the servo seal but there is still no reverse or forward gears. Could this be the pump?

it sounds like a transmission is on its last legs. I drive an 89 Ranger and it's treated me very well eventhough i **** kick it every day, mines a 5 speed. I would suggest taking it to a qualified Transmission shop and have them look at it. Transmission work in a black art, its very hard and complicated, that is unless you know what your doing. it may be cheaper to buy a used transmission and have that installed, or it might be time for that engine/transmission swap (like what i'm doing, Mustang Power Baby). If you want to read more about this go to teh fourms on www.TheRangerStation.com, I am a member there and I have a lot of faith in these guys, thye've helped me with a few problems of my own.

If this is an computerized transmission it sounds like you may want to desire a rebuild/overhaul. you do not say what the mileage is yet because it truly is a 'ninety 9 sort, this is absolute to have >130,000 on it. demanding idle is probably the idle air administration valve, aka air bypass valve. also, might want to be undesirable gas or gas clear out needs replacing. nevertheless yet another chance is it needs new spark plugs, wires & ignition coil.

No..its time for a rebuild. Don't nickle and dime it...it'll cost you more in the long run...If money is tight, you need to find a backyard mechanic to do the rebuild. Maybe cheaper to buy another Used Ranger.

You need to get rid of it and get a newer model. You can only fix things so much then they are ready for the scrapyard.
