I can't answer the how many portion of your question, but in areas where I live it is easy enough for even teenagers who have never before held a job to find one that pays more than minimum wage (ours was just increased, from 5.15 to 6.75 ish?). The only jobs I can think of that might still be minimum wage here would be jobs like washing dishes at a low-cost restaurant, but few people last very long in those jobs before being promoted to busboy or waitress and then making more. Shelving books at the library is eight dollars an hour, and at Kroger's you get a pay increase every six months you work there.

Almost exclusively young people--teenagers in high school who work jobs in fast food etc. That's why the idea of raising the minimum wage is nothing other than a political ploy. All it does is raise the cost of otherwise inexpensive things and actually harms the poor far more than help them.

If you've ever been poor and hungry, for instance, you aren't worried about your three square meals a day--you're just worried about eating, period. Although a hamburger and fries might not be the most healthy meal in the world, it sure as heck fills you up for the day and stops you from being angry, the latter of which can lead you to doing lots of unpleasant things. Someone should do a regression analysis on raising the minimum wage, elimination of the dollar menu, and crime rates.

I would have to say teenagers, & some retirees. How many elderly people do you see working at Mcdonalds & other fast food restraunts, Also I guess alot of people that work at wal-mart, at least thats the impression I get from all the news i see on wal mart. I personally never made minimum wage though,& dont see why anyone would settle for it.
