My husband is an independent truck driver, and we're dealing with a new broker. When we check on availability of loads, under requirements, it says "tier billing".

It likely means that the pay is based on how much you haul using a tiered system ie: if you haul 100 Lbs you get paid x amount if you haul 200 Lbs you get paid x+1. I buy products wholesale and deal with the term "tier pricing" which means the more I buy the less each item costs. I would assume that it means that you are paid different amounts based on how much you haul or how many deliveries that you make.

I don't know about your husband's business but with insurance and prescriptions the cost depends where it fit in it's formulary may with your husband's job it means pay depends on the load and the distance traveled.and if he picks up a load to bring back. maybe certain loads pay more the others and the distance he has to travel also plays into factoring payment
